NBPCA to Rebrand as Innovative Payments Association in 2019
April 10, 2018
WASHINGTON (April 10, 2018)— Today, the Network Branded Prepaid Card Association (NBPCA) announced the organization will become Innovative Payments Association in 2019 to better reflect the innovative and expanding nature of the prepaid industry.
“Empowering consumers with convenient and secure access to their money is vital to the U.S. economy. For years, we have watched the prepaid industry blaze a path into new areas in order to support the millions of Americans relying on prepaid technology in their everyday lives,” said Brian Tate, president and CEO. “While our current name reflects our proud past, it doesn’t accurately capture the full extent of the prepaid access devices in today’s consumer marketplace. With a new name that better reflects the industry as a leader of innovation, we can more readily be the voice on behalf of the larger consumer payments and financial technology community.”
NBPCA announced its new name at the Power of Prepaid® conference, which brings together stakeholders from across the payments space to discuss innovation, regulation, and compliance, among other issues. The association also noted the change will ultimately include an updated mission statement and logo.
“Prepaid providers have been driving payments forward from very beginning," said Ben Jackson, COO. "After months of discussions, we all agreed it was important that the association's name also reflects just how vast and innovative our industry is. Our name has changed, but our goal remains the same: supporting an industry that thrives on bringing people into the financial mainstream, helping companies and governments become more efficient, or providing a payments platform for new technology."
The name change will officially take place on January 1, 2019. To learn more about NBPCA, visit www.nbpca.org.
